Dr. Paul Chaplin, Director
Dr. Paul Chaplin has been a director of Marquis since December 2010. Dr. Chaplin is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with the Orthopedic Care Center of Aventura and has practiced medicine in South Florida for over 25 years. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Dr. Chaplin is a graduate of the University of Miami and the New York Medical College, and he completed a residency and hand fellowship at Duke University. He serves on the Mt. Sinai Medical Center Executive Board of Trustees and is Co-Chairman of the Finance Committee, as well as the Hospital Foundation Investment Committee.
Norman S. Edelcup, Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee and BSA/Compliance Committee
Norman S. Edelcup has been a director of Marquis since its inception in 2007. Mr. Edelcup has been Chairman of the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation since January 2015. Mr. Edelcup served as the Mayor of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida from 2003 to 2014, after serving as Vice Mayor from 2002 to 2003 and Commissioner in 2001. Mr. Edelcup has over 40 years of business experience, having worked in the accounting, manufacturing, electric utility, real estate, consulting and banking industries. Mr. Edelcup also has experience with several Miami-based bank service bureaus, including serving as Chairman of Confidata Corporation, founding and serving as Chairman of Item Processing of America and serving as Senior Vice President of Intercept Corporation. His banking experience also includes senior positions at several banks and bank holding companies, including National Banking Corp. and National Bank of Florida, Miami, Florida, where he served as Vice Chairman of the holding company and a director of the bank from 1983 to 1985, and Florida Savings Bancorp and Florida Savings Bank, Pinecrest, Florida, where he was the Senior Vice President and a director of the holding company and Chairman of the Audit and Compliance Committees from 2001 to 2006.
Mr. Edelcup also currently serves as a director (or trustee) and member of the Audit Committee for Baron Mutual Funds in New York, New York. Mr. Edelcup holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Northwestern University.
Philip J. Feldman, Vice Chairman of the Board
Philip J. Feldman has been a founding director of Marquis since its inception in 2007 and has served as Vice Chairman of the Board since September 2010. Mr. Feldman has been a practicing attorney for over 23 years. Mr. Feldman is currently the managing partner of Feldman Law, P.A. in Boca Raton, Florida, which concentrates its practice in the areas of workers’ compensation and catastrophic personal injury and tort law.
Mr. Feldman received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami and a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University. Mr. Feldman is also a partner in several real estate investment companies. Mr. Feldman is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of 440 Scholarship Fund and is a founding director and lifetime benefactor of the Boca Raton Little League.
Jarret L. Gross, Director and Chairman of the Loan Committee
Jarret L. Gross has been a director of Marquis and Chairman of the Loan Committee since Marquis’ inception in 2007. Mr. Gross has experience in mortgage lending, real estate development, property management and construction as a General Contractor, as well as debt collection. Mr. Gross currently leads Frog Funding, a leader in alternative finance, as its CEO.
Mr. Gross has previously served on the Planning and Zoning Board, the Code Enforcement Board, the Redevelopment Advisory Board, and the Charter Review Committee for the City of North Miami Beach, Florida.
Javier Holtz, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
Javier J. Holtz has been the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Marquis since March 11, 2010. Mr. Holtz has over 25 years of banking experience with state and nationally chartered banks. Mr. Holtz served in various executive positions with Union Planters Bank, N.A. from 1998 to 2005, including President of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Capital Factors, Inc., from 2003 to 2005, Executive Vice President and Regional Senior Credit Officer of Union Planters Bank, N.A. from 2001 to 2003 and Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer of Union Planters Bank, N.A. from 1998 to 2001.
Mr. Holtz joined Union Planters Bank, N.A. in 1998 immediately following the acquisition of Capital Bank, Miami, Florida by Union Planters Corporation, the parent company of Union Planters Bank, N.A. Mr. Holtz served in various executive positions with Capital Bank, Miami, Florida from 1983 to 1998, including Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer from 1994 to 1998, Senior Vice President, Assistant Division Manager, Domestic Credit Division from 1992 to 1994 and Senior Vice President, Regional Manager, Retail Banking Division from 1988 to 1992.
Mr. Holtz served as a member of the Board of Directors of Capital Bank, Miami, Florida from 1986 until its sale to Union Planters Corporation in 1998. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Capital Factors, Inc. from 1986 to 1998 and as Chairman of the Board from 1994 until its sale to Union Planters Corporation in 1998. Mr. Holtz served as a member of the Board of Directors of Capital Bank, N.A. from 1982 to 1990 and 1994 to 1998 and as Chairman of the Board from 1994 to 1997. Mr. Holtz has served as Vice Mayor of Indian Creek Village, Florida since February 2010 and as a Councilman for the Village since March 2008.
Miriam Lopez, President, Chief Lending Officer and Director
Miriam Lopez has been President and Chief Lending Officer of Marquis, and has served as a director of Marquis, since August 2010. Ms. Lopez has more than 35 years of community banking experience. Prior to joining Marquis, she spent 25 years at TransAtlantic Bank serving as President and Chief Executive Officer for 18 years, as Chairman of the Board from 2003 to 2007, and most recently as Chief Executive Officer of the TransAtlantic Bank/Banco Sabadell Group. She began her banking career in 1977 with Southeast Bank and later with Intercontinental Bank and Republic National Bank of Miami prior to moving to TransAtlantic Bank in 1985.
Ms.Lopez graduated from Barry University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and attended graduate school at the University of Miami, where she received a Certificate in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. She serves as a director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and is a former President of the Florida Bankers Association. Ms. Lopez serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of Doctors Hospital and the Mercy Hospital Foundation. In addition, Ms. Lopez serves as a Member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Community Depository Institution Advisory Council.
Jeffrey Perlow, Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee
Jeffrey Perlow has been a director of Marquis since its inception in 2007. Mr. Perlow served as Chairman of the Board of Marquis from April 2008 until Mr. Holtz’ appointment to such position during March 2010. Mr. Perlow has been a practicing attorney in the Aventura, Florida area for over 30 years. Mr. Perlow is currently a partner with the law firm of Fromberg, Perlow & Kornik, P.A., which concentrates its practice in real property, estate planning, estate and trust administration, and wills and trusts. He previously served as City Commissioner for the City of Aventura from 1996 to 2001 and was the elected Mayor of Aventura from 2001 to 2005.
Mr. Perlow received a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Denver in 1972 and a Juris Doctorate from DePaul University in 1975.
Hillel Shohet, Director and Chairman of the Asset/Liability Management Committee
Hillel Shohet has been a director of Marquis since its inception in 2007 and served as Vice Chairman of the Board from May 2008 to September 2010. Mr. Shohet has over 30 years of experience in international real estate and hotel development, property leasing and financial management services. Mr. Shohet is the founder and Chief Executive Officer and President of Blenheim Realty Ltd., a New York-based real estate firm established in 1982. He is also affiliated with numerous other real estate investment businesses located in both New York and the Miami area.
He became the Vice Chairman of National Bank of New York City in March 2010 and has served as a member of its Board of Directors since 2002. He also served on its Advisory Board from 1999 to 2001. Mr. Shohet is a Registered Pharmacist, and he holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Pharmacology from the School of Pharmacy at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (Israel) and the School of Pharmacy at Sunderland University in the United Kingdom.
